Lagos Police Debunk Viral Kidnapping Alert on Gbagada Expressway

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a viral report claiming a surge in kidnapping incidents along Gbagada Expressway, labeling it as fake and recycled misinformation.
The command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, clarified that no such security alert was issued by the police and urged residents to disregard the false claims.
“This fake advisory first surfaced in January 2024 and was promptly debunked. It resurfaced again in September 2024 and was again debunked. Sadly, purveyors of fake news have circulated it once more in March 2025,” Hundeyin said.
Despite dismissing the report, he assured Lagosians that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had ordered a review of security measures in the area to reinforce public safety.
“The improved security architecture will be regularly reviewed and optimized to ensure absolute security for road users, residents of the area, and the entire people of Lagos,” he added.
Hundeyin further warned those behind the spread of misinformation, stating that detectives had been assigned to track them down for prosecution. He urged residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
