Concerns over Abandoned Multi-Million Naira FCT Farm Centre

The FCT Farm Centre in Kawu Village, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, has remained abandoned since 2010, despite being a multi-million naira agricultural initiative designed to boost food production and provide training for farmers.
On Friday, the civic technology platform MonlTGN, which monitors public projects and advocates for transparency, reported that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has failed to revive the project despite repeated appeals from the community. This inaction persists despite the ministry receiving billions of naira in annual allocations.
Residents of Kawu have repeatedly petitioned the ministry for intervention. However, while officials claim efforts are underway to resuscitate the centre, no tangible action has been taken in years. Instead, the ministry has been criticized for diverting funds toward unrelated empowerment schemes, such as the distribution of motorcycles and tricycles.
Once envisioned as a hub for agricultural development, the facility has now fallen into disrepair and has reportedly become a hideout for criminal activities, raising serious security concerns for local residents.
Civic groups and concerned citizens are now calling on anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), as well as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Ireti Kingibe, to investigate the apparent mismanagement of public funds.
Stakeholders are urging the government to take immediate action to revive the project, emphasizing that restoring the farm centre is crucial for enhancing food security and improving livelihoods in the region.
