At least two Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed when Boko Haram terrorists launched coordinated attacks on two military bases in Borno State.
AHR findings revealed that one attack was carried out in Wajirko, Damboa Local Government Area, and another in Wulgo, Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of the state respectively.
According to military sources, the Commander of the Nigerian Army overseeing Damboa was leading a reinforcement team to support the embattled troops when his convoy struck an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the terrorists.
The explosion injured him and several of his escorts.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Boko Haram fighters entered the area disguised as Fulani herdsmen, moving with livestock to avoid suspicion.
Instead of leaving after trading hours, they stayed behind until nightfall before launching the deadly assault.
The attacked military bases housed both Nigerian and Cameroonian soldiers operating jointly to combat insurgency in the region.
Despite efforts by multinational forces to weaken their operations, Boko Haram continues to pose a serious security threat to Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon, carrying out sporadic attacks in various locations.
