Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has stepped down from presiding over the case involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing allegations of bias raised by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The judge made the announcement during Tuesday’s proceedings, stating, “I am recusing myself from this case in light of the concerns expressed by the third defendant.”
Despite the matter being scheduled for hearing, Justice Egwuatu ruled that the case file would be returned to the Chief Judge for reassignment. His decision follows claims from Akpabio, who is listed as a defendant, suggesting that the court may not be impartial in the proceedings.
With this development, a new judge will be appointed to handle the case, potentially delaying its resolution.
