NELFUND Plans Seamless Student Loan Verification Through School Portals

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is set to simplify student loan verification by integrating its system with university portals, allowing seamless registration and loan selection.

Speaking at a sensitization event at the University of Ilorin on Tuesday, NELFUND’s Executive Director of Operations, Mustapha Iyal, said the move aims to eliminate bottlenecks in the verification process.

“We observed that one of the biggest challenges students face is verification,” Iyal stated. “Now, instead of logging into multiple platforms, students can select NELFUND as their payment option directly on their school portal. Their details will be auto-verified, ensuring a smoother process.”

He emphasised that this direct integration will reduce delays and eliminate bureaucratic hurdles that students currently face when applying for loans.

Addressing concerns raised by students in Kwara State, Iyal assured that improvements are ongoing. “We are actively working to resolve these issues. Our team operates 24/7, ensuring a seamless experience for applicants.”

Meanwhile, a representative of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on the NELFUND board, Umar Farouk praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the initiative.

“The student loan scheme fulfills one of the President’s key promises,” Farouk noted. “Now, children from low-income families can access higher education without financial hurdles.”
