NIMC Warns Against Unauthorized NIN Modifications, Launches Secure Self-Service Portal

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has cautioned Nigerians against using unauthorized websites to modify their National Identification Number (NIN) data, warning that doing so could lead to identity theft.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, emphasized the importance of using only the approved platform for making modifications. NIMC has officially launched its Self-Service Modification Portal (selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng), allowing individuals to securely update their NIN details from any location.

“We have put this system in place to ensure the security and integrity of citizens’ data. Any attempt to modify NIN information on unverified platforms could expose individuals to fraud and identity theft,” he said.

According to NIMC, the new self-service portal is designed for convenience and data protection, eliminating the need for long queues at enrollment centers.

“With this official portal, Nigerians can update their details anytime, anywhere, while being assured that their information remains secure,” Adegoke added.

The commission urged the public to be vigilant and to always verify platforms before inputting their personal data. For further inquiries, NIMC directed citizens to visit its official website (www.nimc.gov.ng), send an email to nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng, or call the customer care line at 0700 2255 6462.
