The National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, Eniola Olajuni, regained freedom Saturday, after spending 12 harrowing days in captivity. Olajuni was kidnapped on Monday, February 17, while traveling to Abuja for a meeting.

His release was confirmed on Saturday by the National Secretary of the Afenifere Youth Council, Biodun Aderohunmu, who simply stated, “He has been released.”

The circumstances of his freedom may remain unclear and sketchy, relief and jubilation have greeted his freedom by his family, colleagues and supporters who had been thrown into grief over the past 12 days.

Africa Health Report, AHR, recalls that on Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of the Intelligence Response Team to secure the safe release of the Afenifere Youth Leader after a video went viral where Olajuni, who was at gun point, pleaded for Nigerians to come to his aid and raise funds for his release.

While in captivity, a distressing video surfaced online in which Olajuni pleaded for help, and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N100 million and two tricycles, adding to the growing fear surrounding his fate.

His abduction sparked widespread concern, especially among members of the Afenifere Youth Council, who called for urgent action to secure his release.

His plight highlighted the worsening security crisis in the country, with many calling on authorities to address the increasing cases of abductions targeting prominent figures.

The incident serves as another stark reminder of the security challenges in Nigeria, raising concerns about the safety of citizens traveling across the country.
