Sultan Declares Saturday as First Day of Ramadan After Moon Sighting

The palace of the Sultan of Sokoto has announced the sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan on Friday evening.

In an official statement read at his palace, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, confirmed that the moon was sighted in various parts of the country.

As a result, he declared Saturday, March 1, as the first day of Ramadan 1446.

Meanwhile, authorities in Saudi Arabia had earlier announced the sighting of the moon in the country, also declaring Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.
