Power Outage Grounds Abuja, Presidential Villa, 53 Districts for More than 24 Hours

For more than 24 hours, a major power outage disrupted electricity supply, crippling activities in over 53 areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including the Presidential Villa, due to a technical fault affecting critical infrastructure.

The outage which surfaced early Friday lingered for over 24 hours. As of the time of going to press on Saturday morning, the nation’s capital city, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, remains without electricity.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been urged to remain patient as AEDC technicians work to resolve the technical issues and restore power.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the development on Friday, attributing the blackout to faults in the feeder serving the affected districts.

“We are currently experiencing a power outage due to technical faults affecting the R4 Injection Substation at Three Arms Zone, Aso Drive,” the AEDC stated in an announcement on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The substation supplies power to the Presidential Villa, as well as several high-profile locations and residential estates within Abuja. The electricity provider assured residents that efforts were underway to resolve the issue.

“Our engineers are working tirelessly to restore electricity to the affected areas as soon as possible,” AEDC said.
