The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers, Amubieya Emmanuel and Ogunmola Akintola, both 26 years old, who have been terrorizing residents of Akure in recent months
According to CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, the suspects were apprehended on February 25, 2025, by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team in Ondo Town.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have been actively involved in a series of robbery incidents in Akure since August 2024.
Their modus operandi was targeting ladies, picking them up at night using a Toyota Camry, driving them to remote areas, and robbing them of their mobile phones.
“The victims are compelled to transfer money from their bank accounts at gunpoint (though the gun used was later discovered to be a toy gun),” Odunlami said. Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Camry, knife, iron rod, and a toy gun.
The PPRO stated that the suspects had been on the command’s watch-list and confessed to the crime. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend any other accomplices.
Odunlami assured the public that “The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.”
