The United States has released its list of eligible countries for the 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP), with notable exclusions and additions.
The list, published by the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, does not include African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, or South Africa. However, Romania has been added to the program in a significant update.
The United Kingdom, although removed from the program, remains eligible under specific conditions.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs, the Visa Waiver Program allows citizens of eligible countries to travel to the U.S. for tourism or business for up to 90 days without requiring a visa.
The agency stated, “Travellers must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel and meet all requirements explained below.” The program also allows travellers to apply for a visitor visa if they prefer to have one in their passport.
The 2025 Visa Waiver Program introduces policy updates on permit eligibility, revisions to the list of participating countries, and new travel policies.
The updated list and policies aim to facilitate travel and commerce between the U.S. and participating countries while maintaining national security and immigration standards.
As the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs emphasized, “If you prefer to have a visa in your passport, you may still apply for a visitor visa.”
