Kano State Government has introduced a new transportation system to ease students’ movement to schools across the state.
The initiative was officially launched by the Deputy Governor of Kano State and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, at the Murtala House in Kano.
Speaking at the event, Gwarzo announced that 12 buses had been procured to transport students from various locations to key educational institutions within the state.
The newly launched buses will shuttle students from Murtala House to institutions such as Aliko Dangote University in Wudil, the Malam Aminu Kano College of Legal Studies, North West University, Audu Bako College of Agriculture in Dambatta, and Bayero University’s old and new campuses.
Other routes will include Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Gwale Local Government, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education in Kumbotso, and the College of Advanced Studies (CAS).
Gwarzo emphasized that the government introduced these buses to reduce students’ transportation costs and ease their daily commute.
He also highlighted that Kano is the only state in Nigeria to launch such a program, demonstrating its commitment to improving education accessibility.
He cautioned the bus drivers to strictly adhere to the policy by transporting only registered students of the designated institutions.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, expressed gratitude to the government for the initiative.
He noted that over 10,000 students from his university struggle with transportation, often paying as much as ₦1,200 per trip.
However, with the introduction of these buses, students will now pay only ₦400 per ride, significantly reducing their financial burden.
Yakasai further commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for prioritizing education, stating that the initiative would not only benefit students but also provide relief to parents who struggle with rising transportation costs.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting education and ensuring that students receive the necessary assistance to excel in their studies.
