Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been declared winners of the recently concluded local government elections in Osun State. The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Hashim Abioye, announced the results in a video shared on social media.
He confirmed that all 30 chairmanship seats and 332 councillorship positions were won by PDP candidates across the state’s local governments and wards.
Speaking in the video, Abioye stated, “The Local Government election has been successfully concluded. It was conducted in compliance with constitutional provisions, extant laws, regulations, and guidelines.” He further explained that 18 political parties participated in the election, but PDP candidates emerged victorious in all positions.
“By the power conferred on me as the chief returning officer of OSIEC, I hereby declare them as duly elected chairmen of their respective LGAs,” he announced.
However, the election process faced challenges as the OSIEC headquarters in Osogbo was sealed off by the police, preventing media accreditation.
Abioye addressed this issue, saying, “I want to apologise once again to the media community for the inability to provide accreditation materials. It was simply because police had sealed our head office where the materials were kept, and up till now, police have refused to give us access.”
Despite this setback, the results were announced, with PDP securing a landslide victory in the state.
