Kano, Nigeria – A devastating fire broke out in Bukar’s village in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on the evening of February 21, 2025, destroying homes, crops, and livestock.
According to a report by Zagazola Makama, a prominent journalist specializing in security and terrorism in the Northeast region, on Saturday the inferno left many residents in distress, as their belongings were reduced to ashes.
The report further revealed that the fire originated from a cooking fire in one of the houses and rapidly spread due to strong winds.
The intensity of the flames, coupled with thick smoke, created chaos as villagers scrambled for safety, abandoning their homes and possessions.
He disclosed that a significant portion of the village’s main marketplace was also affected, with several small shops and food stalls being completely consumed by the flames.
The dry weather conditions further exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for residents to contain the fire.
However, the Nigerian military swiftly intervened to prevent the fire from escalating further.
Their prompt response was crucial in saving lives and minimizing the damage. Soldiers worked alongside residents to control the flames, ensuring the fire did not spread to other parts of the community.
Eyewitnesses commended the military for their quick action, emphasizing that without their intervention, the destruction could have been far worse.
The affected villagers are now appealing for immediate assistance from the government and humanitarian organizations to help them rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
