The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba has called on School Support Officers (SSOs) across Nigeria to refocus their efforts on improving the quality of basic education.
Garba made the plea on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of a three-day training workshop aimed at strengthening SSOs’ capacity to better serve in Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) nationwide.
“The importance of quality basic education for every Nigerian child cannot be overstated,” Garba emphasised during her address.
She stressed that all stakeholders must redouble their efforts to ensure the effective delivery of the Universal Basic Education program.
At the event, the National Coordinator of UBEC’s Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, noted the crucial role SSOs play in monitoring and mentoring school administrators and teachers. “The SSOs are at the heart of quality assurance in education at the grassroots level,” he said, noting that this workshop represents an important first step under Garba’s leadership.
The workshop, titled Empowering SSOs to Champion and Support Technology Integration, is designed to equip participants with skills in educational technology, communication, and collaboration. It aims to foster a more effective partnership between SSOs and school personnel to ensure improved learning outcomes for Nigerian students.
