Avoid Outdoor Activities from 1pm to 4pm – NOC Cautions

The National Orientation Agency (NOC) has advised the general public to stay away from outdoor activities during 1pm-4pm to limit exposure to direct sunlight due to overheating during the dry season.

According to a publication made on the agency’s website on Tuesday, the agency advised the public to wear light coloured, loose – fit wears and use hats, unbramllas and sunglasses while outside.

It also urged Nigerians to drink plenty of water regularly and limited alcohol and caffeinated drinks during this period.

The statement read, “Ensure good ventilation in your home and workplace, use fans, cool showers, air conditioning if available. Avoid bush burning, properly dispose of cigarette butts and other flammable materials.

Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, ensure children, the elderly and invalid stay cool and hydrated.

“Eat healthy and balanced meals to avoid deficiencies that may weaken your body from fighting off heat related illnesses.”

The agency further advises that symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, confusion, or fainting may signal heat exhaustion or heatstroke. “If you or a loved one experience these signs, seek medical attention immediately,” it added. “By taking these precautions and joining efforts to fight climate change, we can safeguard our health and secure a safer future.”
