The Kano State Government has inducted 70 new state counsel into the Ministry of Justice to enhance the state’s justice sector. The induction ceremony took place at the Institute of Anti-Corruption in Goron Dutse.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah, who declared the ceremony open, stated that the newly inducted counsel would strengthen the justice system by ensuring timely and effective legal services.

Barr. Isah commended Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for hiring 70 state counsel—an unprecedented move since the state’s creation in 1967.

The three-day induction training covered court procedures, legal drafting, and advocacy, equipping the counsel with essential skills for their roles.

In his remarks, Barr. Isah praised the Kano Ministry of Justice as a reputable institution producing top legal professionals at state and federal levels. He emphasized that the ministry is a hub for dedicated legal practitioners, not a place for unmotivated lawyers.

He also lauded the expertise of resource persons at the training and urged the new counsel to continue learning from their seniors.

The induction is expected to improve access to justice for citizens and strengthen the legal system. The state government’s ongoing reforms aim to enhance justice delivery, stability, and economic growth.

Earlier, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary Barr. Mustapha Nurraddeen Muhammad provided an overview of the ministry’s history and functions. He urged the new counsel to uphold high moral and professional standards.

Barr. Muhammad also commended Governor Yusuf for addressing manpower shortages in the ministry, reinforcing his commitment to a more effective justice system.
