NECO: Exam Malpractice Decreases by 27%

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 results for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, conducted from November 14 to December 14, 2024.

Speaking at a press conference in Minna on Friday, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, revealed that 6,160 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice, a significant 27% decrease from last year’s 8,518 cases.

Prof. Wushishi also announced that 86,067 candidates had registered for the exam, with 84,799 attending. Among these, 57,114 candidates—representing 67.35%—achieved five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.

“Out of the total 86,067 candidates, 44,988 (52.27%) were male, and 41,079 (47.72%) were female. For those who sat for the examination, 44,277 (52.21%) were male, and 40,522 (47.78%) were female,” Wushishi explained.

Regarding specific subjects, 83,220 candidates sat for English Language, with 62,929—representing 75.62%—scoring credit and above. In Mathematics, 83,024 candidates participated, with 77,988 (93.93%) securing credit or higher.

Wushishi further highlighted that 70,711 candidates, or 83.39%, earned five credits or more, regardless of English Language and Mathematics.
