The Imo State Police Command has denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the missing president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), who was reported missing on Saturday night at about 7 pm.
According to a family source, unidentified gunmen dressed in black and numbering up to seven, arrived in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV and stormed Igboayaka’s residence at Works Layout, Owerri, where they arrested him.
The source revealed that all attempts to reach Igboayaka through his mobile lines have failed, saying “Since this sad news broke, attempts by teeming members of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, family members, friends, and associates to reach him through his mobile lines to ascertain his whereabouts have failed, as all his lines were switched off immediately after the ugly incident.”
The Igbo National Council president, Chilos Godsent, has called on security agencies in the state to launch an investigation to uncover those responsible for the abduction of Igboayaka.
The Imo State Police Command has issued a press statement clarifying that Igboayaka is not in police custody. According to DSP Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, “the command has initiated an investigation to determine the whereabouts of the OYC president.”
The police have urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could help uncover those responsible for the abduction.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of individuals in the state, particularly those in leadership positions. The police say investigation is ongoing, and it is hoped that Igboayaka will be found safe and sound soon.
