The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a truck driver who crushed three automobile technicians to death in the Kemta area of Abeokuta on Wednesday.

According to the command’s spokesman, Omolola Odutola on Friday, “The driver is at large. The technicians are aware of the whole issue that he has not been arrested. The truck is in the police station.” The police are working to apprehend the driver, who fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The incident sparked outrage among the technicians, who protested the killing of their colleagues on Thursday. Members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association blocked the Ajebo/OGTV road, vowing not to allow trucks to ply the road until necessary steps are taken.

The police have held discussions with truck owners, technicians, and relatives of the victims to address the situation.

The Ajebo Mechanic Village Chairman, Saheed Arulogun, confirmed that the truck driver is still at large. Arulogun noted that the truck owners are making efforts to release the deceased to their families for burial and are also planning to compensate the families.

“There will be a meeting that will involve all parties… We will know the next step after the meeting,” he said.
