The Lagos State House of Assembly has reconvened nearly a month after Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office. Obasa was noticeably absent at the plenary session, which saw 36 lawmakers in attendance.
The assembly’s focus shifted towards commending the Federal Government’s economic policies, with Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe Constituency I, praising the government’s efforts in curbing insecurity in Lagos.
Tobun moved a motion for the House to write a letter of commendation to the presidency for its impactful initiatives. Other lawmakers, including Gbolahan Yishawu from Eti-Osa Constituency II, highlighted various Federal Government initiatives, expressing optimism about their long-term benefits.
Speaker Mojisola Meranda joined in applauding President Bola Tinubu, citing his approval of loan access for small-scale businesses and the growing stock market capitalisation as signs that Nigeria is on the right track.
Meranda also praised President Tinubu’s significant investments in security and First Lady Remi Tinubu’s dedication to national development.
Notably, the leadership crisis surrounding Obasa’s impeachment was not raised during the plenary, indicating that the assembly may have moved on from the issue.
