The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has on Thursday, inaugurated five mini-plants for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, to improve the availability and accessibility of gas throughout the nation.
The facilities, which consist of PRIME LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete, are intended to use natural gas sourced from pipelines that run through Ajaokuta.
Africa Health Report (AHR) monitored the event on NTA in Abuja, where the company announced that the raw materials for these plants would be sourced from the operational Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project.
During the launch, a representative from NNPC emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “This represents a major advancement in our dedication to making sure that every area in Nigeria reaps the benefits of our gas resources. These LNG mini-plants will deliver cleaner and more affordable energy to communities that currently do not have gas infrastructure.”
The AKK pipeline, regarded as the cornerstone of the initiative, is anticipated to revolutionize Nigeria’s energy sector. When it becomes operational, it will provide gas to areas that lack adequate supply and boost economic development in those regions.
“This isn’t solely focused on gas infrastructure; it’s about enabling communities and fostering industrial development,” the representative emphasized.
The project is seen as a major step toward actualizing Nigeria’s vision of becoming a gas-driven economy while also addressing energy inequality across the country.
