Operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) in Lagos have arrested a lawyer, Barrister Chinwe Onuoha, for allegedly forging documents to obtain a bank facility. The arrest occurred on January 22, 2025, in Ikorodu, after Onuoha had repeatedly ignored invitations to answer allegations of forgery.

According to eyewitnesses, Onuoha attempted to evade arrest by fleeing into a court premises, but was apprehended by security personnel at around 7:30 pm.

Commissioner of Police, the Special Fraud Unit, Ayo Omodeinde confirmed the arrest, stating that Onuoha was taken into custody based on a complaint of forgery submitted to his office in June 2024.

Omodeinde revealed that Onuoha allegedly forged a lease agreement and signatures to obtain a loan from the Bank of Industry for her pure water production business.

“She forged someone’s documents and attempted to unlawfully claim a woman’s house, using the forged documents to obtain a loan,” Omodeinde said. “The two women are friends; the person gave her the house for free. She lived in the house, but then tried to convert it into her own property.”

Onuoha’s alleged actions were described as a brazen attempt to commit property theft. Omodeinde noted that Onuoha had even taken her landlady to court, claiming she had bought the house for N2.3 million, despite never receiving the documents.

“In her petition to the court, she falsely stated that the woman had given her the documents and asked the court to assist her in obtaining them,” Omodeinde said.

“This is the same forged document she used to secure the loan from the Bank of Industry.” Onuoha is currently in police custody, undergoing interrogation while the matter is under investigation.
