The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed in a duvet for export to the United Kingdom.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson in a statement on Sunday, the illicit cargo was discovered on January 21 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. Two suspects, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun, were arrested in connection with the consignment.
Babafemi revealed that “six parcels of the psychoactive substance, with a gross weight of 3.50 kilograms, were hidden inside the duvet.” Austin Balogun, identified as the main agent, confessed to being paid N700,000 to facilitate the shipment to the UK.
However, he admitted to using a portion of the funds for export handling charges and spending the bulk on securing an apartment.
In separate operations, NDLEA operatives arrested suspects and seized various psychoactive substances, including Skuchies, skunk, and Nitrous Oxide, as well as firearms and other items. The agency’s efforts aim to disrupt the illicit drug trade and ensure public safety.
