The Nigerian Armed Forces have stepped up efforts against terrorism and criminal activities across the country, achieving major successes between this month.
According to a statement released by the director of Defence Media Operations Edward Buba, Recent efforts led to the elimination of a notorious terrorist commander, Abu Mosaje, in Plateau State. Also, a wanted kidnap kingpin, Babangida Gora Usman, was apprehended in Kaduna State, further disrupting criminal networks in the North Central region.
Troops also arrested Timothy Yusuf and his son, Timothy Obadiah, both notorious gunrunners. Meanwhile, in the South East, seven IPOB/ESN terrorists were arrested, including a well-known kidnapper and informants in Enugu and Imo States. These operations are aimed at dismantling terrorist groups and their collaborators.
During the operations, the military neutralized 79 terrorists and arrested 224 suspects, including 28 involved in oil theft. Additionally, 67 kidnapped hostages were rescued. In the South South, troops destroyed illegal refining sites and recovered stolen crude oil worth approximately N747 million.
The troops seized over 840,000 liters of stolen crude oil, 12,340 liters of illegally refined diesel, and 200 liters of kerosene. They also recovered numerous weapons, including AK47 rifles, fabricated guns, RPG bombs, and large amounts of ammunition. Other seized items included motorcycles, vehicles, and communications equipment.
