In a tragic turn of events, Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), tragically lost his son in a car accident on Monday, while he was extending condolences to another officer grieving a comparable loss.
Disu, who took over as the 32nd Commissioner of Police for the FCT Police Command in October, was visiting CSP A.A. Sambo, the Divisional Police Officer of Ushafa Division, whose son had recently died. During this visit, he received the heartbreaking news of his own son’s death.
A relative who spoke with reporters described the incident as “inconceivable and deeply upsetting.” While the specifics of the accident remain unclear, it has left friends and coworkers in disbelief.
“A loss like this is something no parent should have to face, especially during a time of collective mourning,” stated a close friend of the Commissioner.
Disu has succeeded AIG Benneth Igweh as head of the FCT Police Command, following Igweh’s recent promotion and assignment to Zone 7 Headquarters.
The dual tragedy has created a heavy atmosphere at the FCT Police Command, with officers supporting Disu and his family during this difficult period.
