The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspected killer of Prophet Yomi Adetula, who was shot dead on Sunday, during a church service at the Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish in Idiroko, Ogun State.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the prophet was shot dead on Sunday morning, and his body was found lying in a pool of blood with visible wounds.
“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets, and his head was not spared. To ensure the victim was dead, it was mangled with an axe,” Odutola said.
Odutola stated that witnesses reported that the suspect entered the church brandishing long double-barrelled shotguns, causing confusion and firing at the prophet, who was hit and brought to the ground.
The attackers then fled the scene, making their way towards the border area. The police have taken the body to the General Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro and have launched an investigation into the killing.
The police are working to track down the fleeing suspects, and Odutola assured that “efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects who escaped the scene through the border area, as possible clues will be revealed in the coming days.”
A source from the Social Orientation and Safety Corps in Ogun State revealed that the victim was a senior officer within the corps and a key witness in an ongoing legal case involving a suspect in the state.
