A socio-political group in the Northeast, the Forum for Northeast Development, has expressed strong disapproval of recent criticisms levelled at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies by prominent Northerners. The group specifically chastised Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State General Sani Abacha, for their remarks against the Tinubu-led Federal Government.
In a statement jointly signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Baba Mala Biu, and Secretary, Comrade Lawan Mohammed, the group accused the two prominent figures of undermining efforts aimed at national progress. The Forum urged Nigerians to disregard their comments, describing them as divisive and unconstructive.
“First, we have no reason to complain because our son, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, is from the Northeast geopolitical zone, and we believe he cannot betray us as a people. He remains one of the trusted individuals we rely upon politically,” the statement read.
The Forum also emphasized that President Tinubu’s reforms, particularly the recently introduced tax reforms, would yield long-term benefits for the Northeast and the entire northern region. According to the group, these measures are critical for restoring the economy and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
“It is really unfortunate that some Northerners, such as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, have raised voices against a president who is working hard to restore the economy and indices of growth and development,” the Forum stated.
The group called on Northerners to rally behind the Tinubu-Shettima administration, asserting that both leaders possess a profound understanding of governance and a genuine commitment to selfless service.
“So, it is unwise and unacceptable for anyone from the Northeast region to join the critics of the President, especially when these reforms are aimed at revamping our economy,” the statement added.
The Forum urged Northerners to remain optimistic and have faith in the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises, reaffirming that Tinubu and Shettima are focused on bringing about transformative changes that would benefit the entire country.
This latest development highlights the growing divide within the Northern political landscape, as supporters and critics of the Tinubu administration continue to clash over the impact of the president’s economic policies.
