The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed optimism over the newly brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, hoping it will put an end to the ongoing civilian suffering in Gaza.
This development comes after 15 months of intense conflict, offering a glimmer of hope to those affected by the violence.
The agreement not only addresses the immediate need for a halt in hostilities but also provides crucial relief for families of Israeli hostages in Gaza and Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. It marks a significant step toward mitigating the humanitarian crisis that has plagued the region.
In a press release issued on Monday, the spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, stated the importance of the agreement in facilitating the delivery of vital aid to those in need.
The government recognised the ceasefire as a pivotal moment for enabling the safe passage of essential relief materials to Gaza.
“Nigeria also welcomes the supply of much-needed aid and relief materials that the peace deal facilitates,” the statement read. “Nigeria urges all stakeholders to build on the new momentum and work towards the successful implementation of the second and third phases of the agreement, and reaffirms support for a two-state solution as the blueprint for a just and lasting peace for Palestine, Israel, and the entire region.”
