Nigeria Joins BRICS Alliance as Ninth Partner Country

Brazil has officially announced Nigeria’s inclusion as a partner country in the BRICS alliance, highlighting their common goals in promoting South-South collaboration and reforming global governance.
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Friday, welcoming the African powerhouse into the fold of emerging economies.
Nigeria, now the ninth member of the BRICS partnership, joins a list that includes Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
In a statement, the Brazilian government expressed its enthusiasm, stating, “Nigeria, which has the sixth-largest population in the world and is the largest in Africa, aligns closely with the interests of other BRICS nations. The country is actively involved in enhancing South-South cooperation and reforming global governance—key issues highlighted during Brazil’s current presidency.”
Nigeria’s inclusion is seen as a strategic move to bolster South-South cooperation, with the country playing an influential role in reforming global governance, an area of focus during Brazil’s current presidency of the bloc. “Nigeria is an active participant in strengthening economic partnerships across the Global South, and this partnership is expected to contribute to reshaping global economic governance,” the statement further read.
