The Lagos State House of Assembly has appointed four new principal officers following the impeachment of former Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday.

The new Speaker, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda (APC-Apapa 1), announced the new officers while presiding over plenary on Friday. Obasa’s impeachment was a result of alleged gross misconduct, with 32 out of 40 members voting against him.

The Clerk of the House, Mr. Lekan Onafeko, was also suspended over alleged gross financial impropriety.

According to Meranda, the change in leadership necessitated the appointment of new officers.

“The House has named Mr. Temitope Adewale (APC-Ifako-Ijaiye 1) as the new Majority Leader, while Mr. Adedamola Kasunmu (APC-Ikeja 1) is the new Deputy Majority Leader,” she said.

Additionally, Mr. Setonjo David (APC-Badagry 2) has been named Chief Whip, and Mr. Babatunde Saani (APC-Kosofe 2) is now the Deputy Chief Whip.

The new appointments mark a significant shift in the Assembly’s leadership. Notably, Mr. Mojeed Adams, formerly the Majority Leader, has been appointed Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, three lawmakers, including Obasa and Adams, were absent from the first plenary session presided over by the new leadership.
