The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is prosecuting Mrs. Joy Ndubuisi Chineme of the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment and Mr. Godwin Tabo Sakat of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
According to a statement sent to Africa Health Report (AHR) by the spokesperson of the Commission Demola Bakare, the defendants whom were accused of job racketeering worth ₦12 million face a nine-count charge, including the transfer of funds and the use of a fake employment letter.
The case which is being heard at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, Abuja, commenced on Monday, January 13, 2025 following an initial arraignment in July 2024.
The ICPC began investigating after receiving a petition in March 2022, uncovering significant financial transfers and a fraudulent employment letter tied to the defendants.
ICPC Assistant Director, Mrs. Adah Ojoma, testified that money transfers were traced to the first defendant’s Zenith Bank account and partially to the second defendant. While Mrs. Chineme reportedly gave her statement voluntarily, her counsel contested this, leading to a trial within trial.
