President Bola Tinubu has called for international cooperation to address climate change and achieve sustainable development
According to a statement released by the special adviser to the president Bayo Onanuga, Speaking on Wednesday during the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, The President emphasized the need for collective action to build a resilient, equitable, and sustainable future.
Tinubu, addressing the theme “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future,” outlined Nigeria’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition to cleaner energy sources. He highlighted initiatives such as the adoption of compressed natural gas, electric vehicles, and climate-smart agricultural practices to tackle environmental challenges and enhance food security.
The president urged global partners to support Africa’s green economy through funding and technological innovation, noting Nigeria’s leadership in issuing Sovereign Green Bonds to finance eco-friendly projects. He also called for investments to address deforestation, flooding, and other environmental issues affecting millions of livelihoods.
Tinubu stressed that sustainability requires collaboration, innovation, and decisive action from all nations. He reassured attendees that Nigeria’s policies align with global climate goals while addressing local realities, prioritizing economic growth alongside environmental stewardship.
