The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has presented a retired Federal Civil Service Commission Director, Mrs. Mayen Gajere, as a witness in the ongoing forgery trial of Mr. Taiwo Stephen Ayodeji.
The case which was presided over by Justice A.Y. Shafa of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Nyanya, resumed on Tuesday.
According to a statement sent to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Wednesday by the Spokesperson for the Commission, Demola Bakare, Mr. Ayodeji is accused of forging an employment letter from the Federal Ministry of Power and fraudulently earning ₦760,705.44 in salaries over 11 months alongside charges for providing false information to ICPC investigators.
Mrs. Gajere, a retired Federal Civil Service Commission Director as one of the witnesses, explained federal employment procedures and the integration of employees into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
ICPC Officer Victor Okorafor, serving as a witness, revealed that an investigation found Mr. Ayodeji’s name on the IPPIS platform without corresponding employment records, he also disclosed that during interrogation, Mr. Ayodeji claimed to have obtained the fake employment letter through a contact named Mr. Williams Umude, allegedly associated with IPPIS.
The case was adjourned to March 24, 2025, for the adoption of a no-case submission. Mr. Ayodeji, who was arraigned in February 2024, has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently out on bail.
