The Ogun State-owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, has been closed indefinitely from Monday, January 13, 2025, following student protests over multiple issues, including tuition hikes and delays in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation.
In a statement issued on Monday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, the management stated the need to verify the authenticity of students’ National Diploma (ND) results, which led to unrest on campus. “Management expressed its zero tolerance to fake results from any quarters,” Ajibola stated.
The protests, which also included concerns over an alleged increment in tuition fees, prompted the temporary closure of the institution to ensure the safety of both students and staff. “Students have been advised to stay away from campus in their own interest,” Ajibola added.
In addition to the ND result verification, students are reportedly dissatisfied with delays in the mobilisation of their Higher National Diploma (HND) colleagues for the National Youth Service Corps.
The closure will remain in effect until further notice, with authorities assuring parents and the public of timely updates.
“This decision was taken to safeguard lives and properties,” Ajibola added, highlighting the institution’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful academic environment amidst the ongoing challenges.
