Officers of the Nigerian military are also barred from having romantic relationships with subordinates or their spouses. Disciplinary measures for violations were not specified. Consequently, LGBTQIA2S+ activities or cross-dressing are barred within the armed forces of Nigeria.
These come to effect as President Bola Tinubu authorized new rules for the Nigerian Armed Forces prohibiting actions including homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, and cross-dressing among military members.
The regulations specified in Section 26 of the updated Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service, which was signed on December 16, 2024, also ban body piercing, tattooing, intoxication, and inappropriate behaviour.
The document specifies that an officer is prohibited from participating in homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, and must not associate with or partake in LGBTQIA2S+ activities or cross-dressing.
