NDLEA Busts Drug Syndicates During Operations in Abuja, Others

In a string of coordinated raids, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted significant drug consignments and arrested key suspects across multiple states.

In Abuja, operatives confiscated 2,217.6kg of cannabis that was loaded into a 40-foot trailer and redistributed among six vehicles at a fuel station in Kagini, Kubwa. One individual, Isaac Monday Desmond, was apprehended during the operation. According to the agency, “The trailer was tracked back to Edo State, the point of origin for the shipment.”

In a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, January 12, 2025, it was revealed that NDLEA officers in Lagos intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed in face cream bottles destined for Australia. According to an NDLEA official, “The parcels, weighing 330 grams, were cleverly hidden but uncovered through intelligence efforts.”

Meanwhile, at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Rivers State, NDLEA uncovered 338,200 bottles of codeine syrup worth over N1.1 billion in joint examinations with Customs.

Additionally, a long-wanted traditional priest, Bariu Aliu, linked to a 2.7-ton skunk seizure in October, was arrested in Lagos after a months-long manhunt.

Commending the operatives, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised their “unrelenting efforts in curbing drug supply and sensitizing communities about the dangers of substance abuse.”
