The Lagos State Government has revealed that a total of 1,675 disasters occurred in the state between January 1 and December 31, 2024. According to the 2024 Annual Data Analysis released on Saturday, by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Alimosho Local Government Area topped the list of incidents.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, stated that the agency acted in accordance with its statutory responsibilities to coordinate emergency responses.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained that in December 2024, LASEMA attended to 167 incidents, with road accidents ranking first, followed by truck/tanker incidents, and then fire disasters. He noted that the agency did not record any cases under the marine, rail, and air crash categories in December 2024.
The data also showed that Eti-Osa Local Government ranked highest in terms of incidents attended in December 2024, followed by Ikeja and Alimosho LGAs.
In terms of incident categories, the Truck/Tanker/Trailer category accounted for 507 incidents, while road accidents/crashes accounted for 458 incidents, and fire disasters accounted for 285 incidents.
The air/train crash category recorded the least number of incidents, with only three train crashes reported in 2024. Oke-Osanyitolu added that Pre-Hospital Care ranked highest in terms of cases attended, with 59 cases in December 2024.
Data on emergency trends in LGAs revealed that Alimosho recorded the most number of cases with 262 incidents, followed by Ikeja and Eti-Osa LGAs.
The monthly emergency trends showed that December 2024 recorded the highest number of incidents, with 167 cases. In the last six years, LASEMA has attended to 8,117 incidents in Lagos State, with the highest number of incidents recorded in 2021.
