Tension in Ekiti as Clashes Erupt over Death of Okada Man

A violent clash broke out in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday between members of the Oodua People Congress (OPC) and motorcycle riders.

The clash, which was sparked by the death of a motorcycle ticketing officer, resulted in many injuries as both groups used dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and knives.

According to an eyewitness, the trouble started when motorcycle riders accused an OPC member of being responsible for the ticketing officer’s death near the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.

The Ekiti State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad quickly intervened to restore order in the area.

Speaking about the incident, Ekiti police spokesperson, CSP Abutu Sunday, stated that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent clash.

He explained, “Today being 09/01/2025 at about 11:20hrs, the Command received a distress call that some hoodlums were attacking and robbing innocent people in Atikankan Area of Ado-Ekiti.”

CSP Abutu Sunday further stated that the operatives of the RRS were deployed to the area, where six suspects were arrested. He added, “They are currently undergoing investigation. Effort is underway to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.”

The police spokesperson’s statement highlights the efforts of the Ekiti State Police Command to maintain law and order in the area.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of residents in Ado-Ekiti. The police said the police command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the clash.
