Nigerian Troops Neutralise 109 Terrorists in Ongoing Operations

Over 109 terrorists and bandits have been killed by the Nigerian military, the Armed Forces of Nigeria authorities have said.

The military high command said the success is recorded as part of its continued counter-insurgency and anti-crime operations across the country.

In a press release issued on Thursday by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military disclosed the significant results of its efforts in one week.

Buba said the military’s focus on combating terrorism yielded remarkable results as troops neutralized 109 insurgents and arrested 81 individuals involved in terrorist activities.

Additionally, 43 kidnapped hostages were rescued, showcasing the armed forces’ dedication to ensuring the safety of citizens.

In the South-South region, troops successfully arrested six perpetrators of oil theft and disrupted attempts to steal crude oil worth approximately ₦618,756,470.

Operations led to the discovery and destruction of 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 12 boats, four storage tanks, and 10 illegal refining sites. Troops also recovered:

631,709 litres of stolen crude oil

3,140 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO)

2,250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Recovered items included 12 speedboats, 20 drums, three pumping machines, four vehicles, and one mobile phone, among others.

Weapons and Ammunition Seized

During the week, troops recovered an arsenal of 21 assorted weapons and 124 rounds of ammunition, including: 9 AK-47 rifles, 5 fabricated rifles, 4 Dane guns, 3 locally made pistols, 7 magazines, 97 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 22 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

Other recovered items included six motorcycles, four vehicles, three Baofeng radios, and four mobile phones.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the momentum of ongoing operations.
