Finance Minister Unveils Economic Recovery Plans, Targets 5pct Revenue Reclamation

The Federal Government remains dedicated to ongoing economic recovery, as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has outlined important fiscal strategies to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for the 2025 budget proposal.

In a statement made available to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Friday, Edun highlighted the government’s dedication to fiscal sustainability, pointing out the effective reforms enacted under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. These reforms involve the market-driven pricing of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and the launch of new foreign exchange policies.

The Minister stated that these initiatives could assist Nigeria in reclaiming as much as 5% of its lost revenue.

Edun emphasized that their priority is to increase revenue, enhance fiscal responsibility, and promote sustainable economic growth for all Nigerians. He commended the government’s fiscal achievements, notably the almost complete fulfillment of recurrent revenue for 2024.

He emphasized the government’s dedication to funding capital expenditures, extending the budget until June 2025, and mentioned that achieving a robust 3% GDP growth in 2024 is a significant accomplishment.

Edun concluded, “We are on a recovery path, and our reforms are already yielding results. We remain focused on sustaining growth and creating job opportunities for Nigerians.”
