The Lagos State government has revealed that 528 organisations, including religious centres, were shut down in 2024 for noise pollution in the state.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by Dr Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of the Lagos Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), during a briefing on the agency’s activities in 2024 and plans for 2025.
According to Ajayi, LASEPA strives to make Lagos State a better place for residents and visitors. He noted that the agency made progress in regulations in 2024 and hopes to build on those successes.
“We hope 2025 will be better than last year. We hope we can engrave in the hearts of the people of Lagos environmental consciousness,” Ajayi said.
To achieve this goal, LASEPA plans to double its efforts in advocacy and open more channels of communication.
“We have digitised lots of our processes. We are doubling our public complaint centre so that people can reach us,” Ajayi added. The agency also hopes to increase its enforcement activities to drive compliance.
Ajayi emphasized that industries will be held more responsible in 2025. “We will be holding industries more responsible this year,” he disclosed.
With these efforts, LASEPA aims to reduce noise pollution and promote environmental consciousness in Lagos State.
