A violent clash between suspected rival cult groups in Owo, Ondo State, has resulted in the deaths of at least four people, including a woman and her baby.
The incident occurred on Monday, with eyewitnesses reporting sporadic gunshots in parts of the town for several hours.
“We thank God that students are not around because we have been hearing gunshots, and after it was heard that some people have been killed early this morning,” an eyewitness recounted.
The victims were allegedly hit by stray bullets or shot during the clash. Their remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and stated that the police have been deployed to calm the situation.
“Four people have been confirmed dead, but normalcy has returned through the intervention of the police, and efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators of the act,” Odunlami said.
The police are working to restore order and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
