New Programme for Students to Resit WASSCE Takes Effect January 2025 – Official

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative, enabling students to resit their WASSCE exams in January and February 2025. This was affirmed by an official of the Council, John Kapi during media interactions.

The programme, called WASSCE PC1, allows candidates to retake failed papers sooner than before, eliminating the long wait for the next private exam cycle.

According to an online publication, Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, explained the registration details on December 31, stating, “Students who access their results and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until January 8 to register. The exams will be held from January 24 to February 15, 2025.”

This new approach is designed to accelerate the academic progress of students, offering them a quicker route to improve their grades and avoid a year-long delay in advancing to the next educational stage.

In addition, students whose results were cancelled—if not banned due to malpractice—are eligible to participate in the upcoming exams.

The exams will be conducted in regional capitals, due to a smaller number of candidates expected.

Despite WAEC’s optimistic projections, the Africa Health Report, AHR was unable to verify the authenticity of the announcement, as all efforts to confirm details directly with the council proved unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
