Petrol Price Crashes to N600 Per Litre in Borno as Governor Gifts Fuel to Farmers

Petrol pump price has drooped to N600 per litre in Borno as the State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, announced a government subsidy on fuel for farmers in areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking in Bama town on Friday evening, Zulum revealed that the cost of fuel, which has soared to N1,000-N1,200 per litre in Maiduguri, would be reduced to N600 per litre for local farmers.

This subsidy is part of efforts to alleviate the heavy burdens on farming communities grappling with the aftereffects of years of conflict.

Zulum highlighted the significance of the initiative, referencing its positive impact in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, where a similar program last year boosted food production.

“One of the major challenges facing our farming communities is the rising cost of fuel, especially for irrigation farming,” Zulum explained. “Therefore, the government will provide subsidized petrol to farmers at N600 per litre, down from N1,200 in Maiduguri.”

Zulum’s remarks were echoed by the Commissioner for Agriculture, who will coordinate with the Brigade Commander to ensure prompt distribution of the subsidised fuel.

In addition to the petrol subsidy, Zulum distributed essential farming inputs, including water pumps, fertiliser, pesticides, and seeds, to over 5,000 farmers.

His administration has also constructed over 100 tube wells for irrigation, with plans to build an additional 250.

Zulum also visited reconstruction sites in Darajama and Goniri villages, reaffirming his commitment to the state’s resettlement efforts and thanking the federal government for its continued support.
