Korede Abdullah in Lagos

It was a tragic sight on January 1, 2025, at Unilag Estate, Magodo area of Lagos, when an electrician, identified as Sheni, was electrocuted by a high-tension wire.

According to eyewitnesses, Sheni was contracted by a resident to make wiring connections on the electricity pole when the incident occurred.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, stated that Sheni was not a staff member of any electricity distribution company and that the repairs were done without their involvement.

A team from the Anti-Crime Patrol at Isheri Division, fire service personnel, and the Lagos State Ambulance Services visited the scene, where Sheni was confirmed dead after his body was brought down from the pole.

His body was taken to the mortuary, and efforts are ongoing to locate his relatives.

“The incident highlights the importance of safety protocols and proper authorization when working with high-voltage electricity”, one of the residents said.
