Lagos Govt Appeals Dr Olaleye’s Acquittal to Supreme Court

The Lagos State Government has appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which acquitted Dr. Olufemi Olaleye of defiling his wife’s niece.

In October 2023, the Lagos State Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court found Olaleye guilty of the two-count charge of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration.

However, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction in November 2024, citing errors in the lower court’s judgment.

The appellate court deemed the prosecution’s evidence “tainted” and “unreliable,” and identified material contradictions in the testimony of key witnesses.

The Lagos State Government is now seeking the Supreme Court’s intervention, arguing that the Court of Appeal’s judgment was incorrect.

The government is urging the Supreme Court to re-examine the evidence and restore justice in the case.

The case has sparked widespread interest, with many following the developments closely.

The Supreme Court’s decision will be eagerly awaited, as it will determine the final outcome of the case and potentially set a precedent for future cases involving similar allegations.
