Nigerian Troops Neutralize 148 Criminals, Rescue 291 Kidnapped Victims

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, on Saturday reported that at least 148 criminal elements were neutralized, 258 terrorists arrested, and 51 persons involved in oil theft apprehended within the past week.

Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba disclosed this in a statement made available to Africa Health Report, AHR on Saturday.

General Buba highlighted the successful rescue of 291 kidnapped hostages, underscoring the military’s continued commitment to combating terrorism and criminal activities across Nigeria. “In the South-South region, troops thwarted oil theft operations, preventing the loss of over 798 million Naira,” he added.

Speaking further on the military operations conducted within the period under review, Buba stated that

operations in the North Central region led to the interception of two ammunition couriers, identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza.

He said, they were apprehended in Bauchi State while transporting arms to terrorist groups. “In total, 146 assorted weapons and nearly 2,600 rounds of ammunition were recovered, marking a major blow to terrorist groups operating in the region.”

The Nigerian military also reported significant progress in the Niger Delta, where troops dismantled 68 illegal crude oil refineries and destroyed numerous storage facilities. They seized over 657,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 127,000 litres of illicitly refined AGO.

General Buba emphasised that these operations were part of the military’s broader strategy to undermine the operational capabilities of terrorist and violent extremist groups. “Troops are in a strong position and are winning the war,” he stated, reinforcing the military’s resolve in securing the country.
