Customs Detains Officer for Shooting Ogun Man’s Vehicle

A Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) officer has been detained for shooting at the vehicle of Babatunde Adeyemo, an Ogun State-based businessman, on December 8, 2024.

The incident occurred at a checkpoint on the Orile Ibara Expressway on December 8, where the officer fired at the moving vehicle with Adeyemo and three aides inside.

Adeyemo, narrowly escaped being shot, as a laptop placed behind him that took the impact of the bullet.

The NCS has launched an investigation into the incident, with the FOU Zone A Comptroller, Kola Oladeji, setting up a disciplinary committee to probe the matter.

“Comptroller Kola Oladeji has swiftly taken action, launching a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter,” said Theophilus Duniya, NCS Public Relations Officer.

The officer involved is currently in detention and awaiting further disciplinary action.

Adeyemo’s legal counsel, CJP Ogugbara & Co., has demanded an investigation, justice, and N50 million in compensation for data loss.

The laptop contained crucial data related to local and diaspora investments worth billions of naira. Adeyemo is also seeking the prosecution of the officer for attempted murder and a replacement for his damaged Mercedes Benz.

The NCS has ordered the immediate replacement of the damaged laptop and the repair of the vehicle, demonstrating the service’s commitment to professionalism and discipline.
