President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his deepest condolences to the government and people of India following the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
According to a statement released by the special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga on Friday, President Tinubu highlighted the late Prime Minister’s official visit to Nigeria in 2007, during which he addressed a joint session of the National Assembly a rare honour granted to a select group of global leaders.
The President praised Dr. Singh for his pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria-India relations.
He acknowledged Singh’s efforts in establishing the Strategic Partnership between the two nations, which continues to enhance political and economic cooperation to this day.
Tinubu further commended the former Prime Minister for fostering closer ties in critical areas such as defense, trade, culture, education, health, science, technology, and ICT. He described Singh’s tenure as a period of remarkable progress in bilateral relations.
Recognizing Dr. Singh’s achievements as an economist and reformist, Tinubu saluted his leadership in steering India’s economic reforms during challenging global times.
President Tinubu joined the people of India in celebrating Singh’s life and legacy, expressing hope that his dedication to service will inspire future generations.
He offered prayers for comfort to Dr. Singh’s family and the people of India as they mourn this significant loss.
